I came across a pretty cool program while trying to look for ways to ditch my worn out New Balance tennis shoes, and while I disagree with many of the practices of the corporation who sponsors the program (duh), I have to give credit where it’s due.
Nike will accept used footwear as part of their “Reuse-A-Shoe” program to make recycled athletic surfaces, like basketball courts and tennis courts. It takes approximately 2,500 pairs of shoes to make one basketball court.
While this program is nifty, it doesn’t let Nike off the hook for all of the other crap it does.
